1970 Aston Martin DB6 MK2 Vantage

Chassis Number: DB6MK2/4255/R

History of the DB6 MK2 Vantage

First registered on 9th November 1970 although the first owner was unknown. Mr C. Sanders recalls purchasing 4255 from Swanley Motor-Company when he was about 26/27 years old in 1976/77. 4255 was kept at Mr Saunders house in Swanley, Kent. Upon purchasing 4255 Mr Sanders reports the dull paintwork and summarised it was possibly kept outside ungaraged at the seaside. Everything was functional with the engine, except the brakes throbbed when used. The DB6 moved to Lenham in 1979.

4255 was taken to Newport Pagnell in 1979/80 for a bare metal re-spray in the original Olive Green livery, including polishing the wheels to a new condition. 4255 was sold in 1980/81 to Roland Duce a car dealer in Leicestershire.

Mrs Susans of Guildford, Surrey possibly purchased 4255 from Roland Duce in December 1983. Frank Reeder & Sons Ltd (performance and specialist cars) of Pewsey, Wiltshire purchased 4255 in April 1984. The DB6 was restored between March 1984 and March 1986 by Reeders and Marque specialists Goldsmith & Young.

The DB6 attended four Concours events winning the coveted Volz Trophy in 1987. Furthermore 4255 went on to win 2nd and 3rd in three other outings.

During the 90's 4255 was kept housed in a heated garage and in December 2001 it was sold to Mr R. Stephens of Gloucestershire. Mr Stephens kept 4255 for 2 years before exchanging it with the Reeders, then subsequently purchased by Mr P. Housego of Devon in August 2003.

Exported in 2008 and put through auction, 4255 had undergone a re-spray to Canyon Pearl Red with a Tan leather interior; furthermore it was noted that 4255 had undergone an unleaded conversion, with a 5-speed ZF manual gearbox.

The current owner commissioned Richards of England to restore 4255 to a Concours standard. This consisted of complete disassembly to a bare shell and removal of all mechanical and electrical parts for restoration. Notable highlights included complete paint removal of the Canyon Pearl Red and repair of the original aluminium body shell and thus repainting to the original specifications of Olive Green. A full mechanical overhaul and rebuilding of the original Vantage engine to 4.2L specification. Re-trimming of the interior with Connolly Vaumol 'pigskin' leather with complementing Wilton wool carpets in Sandstorm as per factory. A truly fabulous combination, cementing the statement 'colours make cars'.

Following almost 2,000 hours of work, this DB6 now has a new lease of life ready to be driven on the open roads. The DB6 successfully drove up to the Yorkshire Dales, where ROE represented 4255, winning a rosette amongst some very high-quality cars at the Yorkshire Elegance Concours in July 2024.

Accompanying the DB6 is a restoration book, showcasing the car; finished in its original livery of Olive Green with Natural Connolly Vaumol 'pigskin' leather trim. The book tells the story through photographs of this DB6 restoration journey.
